
Soon Xiao Qi (b. 2000, Ipoh, Malaysia) is a Singaporean printmaker and visual artist whose practice navigates the boundaries of heritage, migration, and collective memory between Malaysia and Singapore. Xiao Qi’s work traces the personal and political narratives embedded in cross-border identities, employing printmaking, mixed-media installations, and speculative storytelling to reimagine the material culture of Citizenship.
Reclaiming expired documents, immigration stamps, and identity cards into visual forms of layered dialogue between generations, in which, often unspokened. With the dual sense of belonging, the techniques of printmaking, woodcarving specifically, embody the essence of labour and the roots of origin, which resonated deeply with Xiao Qi.
